A Life Spent

Telling People's Stories

1. Donna's Mission

I became an entrepreneur by accident. I was looking for a side hustle to help with my child’s tuition. A mentor suggested I could help business owners write their books. I’d never heard of such a thing.

All that week, I told everyone I met what he had said–as a joke. The “joke” was on me. At the end of the week, I had three clients. That’s what I call a Jesus moment, and I followed the call. It truly is my mission to help people tell their stories.

Each time I see an author proudly holding their newly published book, I feel joy and gratefulness.

2. Donna’s Journey

When I look back on how I got here, it’s what I’ve been doing all my professional life. I started fresh out of college, working in television news as a writer. I made my way through the ranks, producing newscasts and then managing newsrooms. I was passionate about helping people understand their world, and we did that by telling people’s stories.

I left TV news, got my master's degree, and started teaching college composition as a community college adjunct professor. If you know anything about adjunct prof salaries, you’ll know why I was hunting for dollars for my kid’s tuition.

They say “hindsight is 20/20 vision.”

During my master's degree program, I took a writing workshop on creative non-fiction. I loved reading everyone’s stories, commenting on their strengths, noting where and how their writing moved me, where I got lost, and suggesting revisions to improve rough patches. Soon, some students approached me outside of class to look at their writing.

What I loved most in my degree program is what I now do for my clients.

3. Donna’s Dream

I’ve had a blessed life so far. I have a child who is venturing out on her own and a wonderful husband who is about to start the next chapter of his journey.

I love people, adventure, and good food. I cannot wait to see more of the world and meet people in all the places I visit.

My story is one I share with so many people. I’m a child of divorced parents, and their split changed our financial situation. I revere my mother for the massive work she put in to provide for my brother and me.

Just when she was free (grown kids, no pets, mini-mortgage), she was diagnosed with cancer. She basically retired to die. I cherish everything about my mom. She was my best friend. But I do not want to repeat that part of her journey. So, I am starting my adventure before I retire, and she will be with me as I sip coffee and soak in the languages, lore, and loveliness of our planet.
